Working closely with director Nick Cinelli and animator Nelly Michenaud, I integrated the 2d characters into the miniature set. As the sole compositor on this project, having the discussion about exactly how much interaction there should be with this style was very enjoyable.
In The Silence (2019)
In The Silence is a tense short, addressing the affects of PTSD for a veteran. For this project I provided clean up work as a compositor.
LilMissCandy786 (2019)
“In search of an identity, Candy wanders through the digital landscape, leaving fragments of herself behind in this experimental short drama.”
LilMissCandy786 was broadcast on BBC Four as part of a night of short films marking the 30th anniversary of the World Wide Web. My primary role on this project was VFX consultant - I spoke with the producer about how they might most practically achieve effects that they wanted. I also did some clean-up work.

AEON (2019)
“A cinematic ride through the inner-workings of first life, the diversity of the animal kingdom, and the organised chaos of the modern world. ”
I leant my compositng skills to this journey through nature in the form of clean up of unnecessary elements.
Inanimate (2018)
“Katrine has a normal life, a normal job, a normal boyfriend and a normal apartment in a normal city. Or at least thats what she thinks, until one day everything starts falling apart - literally!”
I took over as lead compositor for Inanimate at the end of its production when the previous lead had to leave due to other commitments. I personally completed tens of shots, and organized and oversaw the delivery of final shots to the online edit. The work on this project was varied, but some recurring tasks were rig removal and clay smoothing.
Inanimate went on to receive many awards, including third prize at the Cannes Film Festival in the Cinéfondation Selection and the BAFTA Special Jury Prize.
Moth (2018)
“Jumping between reality and fantasy, Moth is the story of a grieving family told through the eyes of lonely 8-year old Mabil and her vivid imagination which shows her how a tragic loss is breaking apart her parents.”
As a junior compositor, my main role was rig removal for this stop-motion animation project. Believe it or not - those moths don’t fly without wires!
Fishboy (2018)
“Fish Boy lives in darkness, his guilt about the past slowly consuming him. His girlfriend Laura is a light of hope in his dark world. But despite his efforts, his past continues to chase him, eventually putting them both
in danger.”
Fishboy uses a unique combination of textures - from fabric to paint - to tell a compassionate story. As a junior compositor, I assisted by overseeing final export organization, and shot delivery to the grade.
Hedgehog (2018)
“‘Hedgehog’ tells the story of Gareth, who has a debilitating sense of self-doubt - which manifests in the form of a hedgehog.”
Hedgehog uses a charming mixture of miniature sets, CG characters, and hand-drawn expressions. As a junior compositor on this project, I followed the lead’s templates and added my own flair to bring these together to create final coherent images.
Facing it (2018)
“As Sean anxiously awaits a meeting in the local pub, he is forced to explore his own unhappy memories and relationships in an evening that will leave him changed forever.”
As a junior compositor on this stop motion animation project, I did contributed prep work and flicker reduction.
Blood Type (2018)
“Blood Type is a love story that spans two generations, between a tender encounter during a summer in modern London, and a desperate struggle for survival aboard a ‘death train’ in the Siberian winter of 1937.”
As a junior compositor on Blood Type, I assisted the lead, Oliver Buus, with roto and prep work. I also had the opportunity to visit the stage and observe both the train miniatures shoot and the use of the snow machine!
Dead Birds (2018)
“A teenage badminton failure at a Catholic girls school goes to extreme lengths to win the inter-school cup. Dead Birds is a wild supernatural black comedy about competitive mother-daughter relationships, competitive badminton and how far you’d go to get what your heart most desires.”
As a junior compositor on Dead Birds, I assisted the lead, Baitong Monseu, with prep and executing templates.
Good News (2018)
“In a rural, religious community a young man struggles to understand the teachings until a newcomer seems to offer a new way to receive God’s love.”
Shooting in very rural environments can have its challenges. As a junior compositor on this project, my main role was removing overly distracting flies.
In My Own Skin (2019)
“Set in Boston, USA, we enter the unique world of a dance group for women in opioid addiction recovery, as they prepare for a big performance. With intimate insight, twists and turns in their stories and the women’s witty sense of humour, the journey we go on with them, is one made of laughter and tears.”
Emotional interviews and dark environments made this documentary project a very interesting one to tackle as the colourist. The strength of the women featured, and the passion of the other filmmakers involved made the experience extremely rewarding.
Among the Eucalyptus (2019)
“Among the Eucalyptus is a grad film from the NFTS directed, produced, written and filmed by Zoe. It tells the tale of the Eucalyptus ecosystem of Australia. It’s a story of the amazing animals that rely on this ecosystem as well as the conservation research being done to save the trees and their inhabitants. ”
Working as the colourist and online editor, I got together with natural history director and zoologist Zoe Cousins to deliver this short about the threats currently facing eucalyptus trees in Australia, and the animals that depend on them.
Hot Trash (2019)
“Hot Trash is the show where we take your trash and turn it into treasure. Bikes into basketball hoops, cars into ping pong tables or even a beer barrel into a drum kit.”
At the NFTS, as colourist and online editor, I collaborated with Directing and Producing Television MA students Amos Rock-Davidson and Jenny Kuznetsova on their pilot episode of Hot Trash.
Laowai (2018)
“A lost Chinese girl hitchhikes her way to London, without speaking English.”
As a digital compositor on this project, I used my clean up skills to remove some SFX equipment to create a seamless final image without distracting elements.
The Deep Sleep (2019)
“During his sister’s wedding, a man forms an emotional connection with a woman when he discovers that she is equally as lost as him after problems arise with his ambitious girlfriend.”
As the colourist and onilne editor, I worked closely with the director to create a look which matches the emotion of the story and deliver a DCP for cinema viewing.
The Wake (2018)
“In a mythical world of endless ocean, a mother is challenged by a nightmarish figure who offers her a deal.”
I followed through many steps of post production for this short, which takes place in a small sail boat at sea. As a compositor, I removed signs of any land in the distance. As the colorist, I worked with the director and cinematographer to both maintain continuity and enhance the images through evocative tweaks in hue. Finally, I worked as the online editor to output the necessary formats, including DCP, and check tech specs.
As someone who has spent a large portion of my own childhood on boats, it was such a pleasure exploring the warmpth of the cabin and cold of the sea air.
Wildcats: Breeding to Extinction (2018)
“Of the many predator species that once lived in the United Kingdom, there is still one left: the Scottish Wild Cat. The species is threatened by hybridisation with other wild cats and domestic cats. A team of Scottish Wildcat Action keeps an eye on the last hundred copies. ”
Science and Natural History director Zoe Cousins shot and edited this beautiful and sobering piece about the efforts to protect the Scottish wildcats. I worked with her as a color grader to make the final piece sing! This film and another short we collaborated on, Rats With Wings, were selected for the 2018 Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam, the largest nature festival in the Netherlands.

Rats With Wings (2018)
“Pigeons are often called ‘rats with wings’. Due to their excessive presence and unattractive appearance they are seen as a plague. But this bird has an incredible history. From food source to war hero, the pigeon is an undervalued bird.”
